ACT & CATS PARTNER TO SPONSOR COMMUTER BENEFITS WORKSHOP
CHICAGO -- The Midwest Chapter of the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT), in conjunction with the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS), will host a one-day professional development workshop titled "Commuter Benefits" from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, at CATS, 300 W. Adams St., Chicago.
Although many Chicago area companies currently offer commuter benefits to their employees, recent research shows that other employers are still unclear about how these programs work, and about the tax savings available to employers and employees.
The workshop will feature local and national experts discussing how to set up, evaluate and market these programs. Speakers include Stuart Anderson, president of UrbanTransConsultants in Denver, who is also ACT’s executive director; Cynthia Fondriest Capelli, executive director of the National Transit Benefits Association and president of Strategic Transportation Initiatives Inc. in Clifton, VA; and Mark Mandell, managing director for American Express Tax & Business Services in Deerfield, who will discuss tax advantages for employers and employees implementing these types of programs.
Attendees will meet with representatives from area transportation organizations and third party administrators who handle pre-tax transit benefits during a lunchtime session.
The afternoon session will feature speakers from the Schaumburg Business Association, Strategic Focus Inc., and LJR Inc., discussing successful examples of these programs in the Chicago area and nationwide.
The cost for the seminar is $20 for a half-day session or $30 for the full day. To register, contact Karin Allen at 312/996-4820, by fax at 312/413-0006 or by e-mail at karina@uic.edu.
The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) is North America’s most respected association for professionals who specialize in commute options and solutions, as well as organizations, businesses and individuals interested in creating a more workable transportation system.
The Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) was formed in 1955 to develop the first comprehensive long-range plan for northeastern Illinois. Since then, the CATS Policy Committee has been designated by the governor of Illinois and local officials as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the region.
