CATS SEEKING PROPOSALS FOR NEW CMAQ PROJECTS

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) is calling for FY 2004 Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program project proposals.

The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program is a federally-funded program of surface transportation improvements designed to reduce congestion and related air pollution. Approximately $70 million will be available for eligible projects.

Projects eligible for funding under the CMAQ program include transit service improvements, commuter park and ride lots, traffic flow improvements, signal interconnects and bicycle/pedestrian projects that eliminate or reduce automobile trips.

As the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the northeastern Illinois region, CATS evaluates CMAQ project proposals and approves projects for funding.

To obtain a CMAQ project submission packet, contact the TIP Division at CATS, 300 W. Adams Street, Chicago, IL 60606. Packets may also be requested by calling 312/793-3474 or sending a fax to 312/793-3481. Forms and instructions may also be downloaded from the CATS Website.
