Programs >> Partners for Clean Air
Partners for Clean Air is a coalition of over 300 businesses, local governments, environmental and health advocacy groups in northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana that joined forces in 1995 to combat the region's ozone problem through voluntary action.
CATS is a member of the Partners for Clean Air Steering Committee. Other Steering Committee members include AAA-Chicago Motor Club, the Transportation Management Association (TMA) of Lake-Cook, Prairie Stone TMA, Abbott Labs, Commonwealth Edison, the city of Chicago, the Regional Transportation Authority, and the Council of Mayors.
CATS and the Partners for Clean Air has developed a public education curriculum that includes several publications and the video, "Let's Clear the Air." If you're interested in obtaining these materials, contact the CATS Communication Division at (312) 793-3460 or call your local library.
Ozone Reduction Tips
Travel:
Limit driving and defer errands or consider sharing a ride. Call 1-800-920-RIDE for rideshare information. For short trips, consider walking or riding a bike.
If you must drive, avoid excessive idling and jack rabbit starts.
Take transit. Ride the bus or train to work, school, or shopping. Call 836-7000 for route and schedule information.
Don't refuel on an Ozone Action Day. Or if you must refuel, try to wait until after 7:00 p.m.
Avoid using gasoline powered equipment, such as outboard motors and off road vehicles.
At Home:
On Ozone Action Days, defer mowing your lawn until late evening or the next day. Also avoid using gasoline powered garden tools.
Postpone chores that use oil-based paints, solvents, or varnishes.
If barbecuing, use an electric starter instead of lighter fluid.
Avoid using aerosol products such as cleaners, hair spray, or spray paint.
Conserve energy in your home to improve air quality by reducing energy needs from power plants
