Programs >> ITS Architecture
The northeast Illinois region has been
a leader in intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications for
decades. In order for ITS strategies to continue to enhance the safety
and efficiency of the transportation network, long-term planning must be
supported by the Regional ITS Architecture. Architecture will allow
transportation stakeholders to exchange data, reduce costs by combining
elements from separate projects, and prioritize projects based on
logical sequencing.
The Advanced Technology Task Force (ATTF)
and the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) provide the
Northeastern Illinois Regional ITS Architecture for use in the Systems
Engineering stage of ITS project development. The FHWA requires that ITS
projects supported by federal funds will be required to show consistency
with the Regional ITS Architecture. The ATTF will coordinate the
continued development and maintenance of the architecture.
This web page provides access to ITS architecture documentation and includes a Turbo Architecture database. This web page provides seven links.
- Executive Summary (PDF) – A high level overview of the architecture.
- Scope of Work (PDF) – From the architecture development contract.
- Stakeholder Meetings – List of stakeholder meetings with locations, dates and attendees.
- Technical Review (PDF) – The initial technical memorandum summarizing previous ITS planning efforts.
- Architecture Report (PDF) – Architecture development documentation.
- Communications (PDF) – A White Paper assessing communications network needs.
- Architecture Database – A database tool that allows the regional ITS architecture database to be explored and queried.
The development of the regional ITS architecture is an ongoing process. This document represents a snapshot of our regional plan for integrating ITS into our transportation network. The ATTF will be updating the ITS Architecture at regular intervals.
